Low cost ways to move funds between countries?

SWIFT wires are expensive so I'm hoping there's an easier way.

Transferwise is one option. They have been sort of a hassle to setup on the company side though.

Are check requests generally low cost at banks in the top offshore jurisdictions? I don't mind the extra time for mailing and then check clearance.
